Hi all,

Well I am home from our get away from winter vacation.

My husband and I were hoping to go some place warm to get away from this
particularly long winter. We looked at several different options, but,
nothing seemed to work out. So, we decided to do a mid-week spa special at
a place on Martha's Vineyard. It was delightful! The special included a 3
course dinner and the choice of a facial or a massage. The inn had a pool,
hot tub and sauna. It was all so very enjoyable!

We also really had nice weather. It was sunny and in the lower 40s. It was
beautiful for getting out, and touring the island. No crowds this time of
year. We went to 2 of the island's 5 lighthouses, 3 beaches, lunched at the
Off Shore Brewing Company, and visited a fishing village. Hmmm, let's
see. Oh yes. have I ever mentioned that I have a wonderful husband? He
took me to 2 farms to get me fiber to spin. We first went to a sheep farm.
They were sold out of the wool to spin, but we did get some of their
homespun yarn. Then we went to another place that is an Alpaca farm. They
had lots of choices for me to choose from, and yes it was hard to choose! I
picked out some extremely soft black alpaca fiber. I can't wait to spin
this. But, then again, I will have to get up the nerve to spin it too.
smile.

Our 3 course dinner was good, not great. Well, mine was very good, and my
husband's was ok. I had for an appetizer the lobster risotto cakes, yum!
Then for dinner the grilled salmon over artichoke hash. That was
interesting. ? My husband had a Caesar salad for his appetizer which he
said was very good, but for his dinner he had a not so good steak.

For dessert, We both had chocolate mousse cake Yum!

Dinner the night before, we had brought with us.. well for the most part.
We stopped at a wonderful cheese shop, picked out 5 varieties of cheeses, a
dry salami, and some prosciutto. We had that with a nice bottle of Pinot
Noir, and some fruit. Then for dessert, we ordered the chocolate sampler
platter from the restaurant in the hotel. What a wonderful meal! And, we
still have a couple slices of the chocolate cake left!

At the Off Shore Brewing Company, I had the mussels. They were in a
tomato fennel sauce with garlic toasts for sopping up the delicious juices.
My husband had a flatbread with smoked salmon, capers, some greens, and a
lemon sauce. So, I would say we ate very well.
As for the massage, facial choice, well, We both chose to get the massage.
Neither one of us had ever had a massage, so it was an interesting
experience. My daughter told me to get the hot rocks massage? They took
rocks about the size of a squashed tennis ball, heated them up and used
those to massage my back. That was my tropical part of the vacation! I
just imagined that it was summertime, and I was on the hot rocks on our
beach!

Today the weather was not as nice as it had been the last couple days. It
was pouring rain and high winds. The temperatures were not bad though.

The one challenge was getting off the island. We could not stay another
night as the inn was booked for a big hockey tournament that is going on
this weekend. The problem was that the high winds were causing the ferries
to be cancelled. The ferry we were booked on was cancelled, then we were
put on standby for the following ferry. Somehow by the grace of God we were
able to make it onto the next ferry. In all they cancelled something like 6
of the scheduled ferry transports today due to the rough seas and high
winds.

Tomorrow I have to go and get my Cobalt. He has been staying with a
wonderful Fidelco volunteer and former foster. She is so sweet! She has
been sending my husband text messages with photos of her career change
Shepherd, and Cobalt enjoying their time together playing.

Back home to winter, but, only 23 days until spring! not long, not long at
all! Oh, and we did see a flock of robins this week, so things are
certainly starting to come around to the spring side!
