Another tool that is handy for making your own patterns is a wooden 
measuring tool for cutting the yarn to the proper lenth. This tool is about 
15 inches long and it has a deep groove on one of the long edges. You take 
yarn and you wrap it flat around this piece of wood and then take scissors 
and cut down the groove and that gives you the right size yarn for latch 
hooking. I also use different lengths of yarn to help produce other affects 
like a pasture with longer grass etc.
