Gee whiz, I was 8 when Barbie came out.  There was one, I don't  remember 
the doll's name, but it came out just a few years before that or at  least 
one year.  I was 7 years old and in the hospital newly diagnosed with  
diabetes.  My Mom brought me up this doll and every couple of days she
would bring 
me up a new outfit for it.  It was not as skinny as Barbie, but  had great 
outfits.
