Hi all:
First of all, Tarice, I welcome you to Krafter's Corner! I just joined
over
the weekend so I can't give you much information about this mailing list.
To
every one on this mailing list, here is information about myself. I live
in
Salem, Oregon. I am not totally blind. I have light perseption on my right
eyeball and can see lights, colors and shapes on my left eyeball. I do
have
glare issues so it varies a bit depending on the glare in the room and
whenever I am outside. I am a JAWS user and a braille reader. I read books
both in braille and in audio format. I am a NEWSLINE user so I read the
newspaper too. I am also a member of the NFB and I attend many of my state
conventions. I have atendded every state seminar and one national
convention
in Detroit, Michigan since I have joined. I am learning how to make rag
rugs. I have never done that before. As I have said, I am the only blind
person that I know of in Salem who is learning how to make rag rugs. Since
I
have asked for advice on soeing strips together as a blind person, here is
more about what I am doing to soe the strips together. My strips are made
of
recycled sheets that have been donated. I am more worried on how to soe
the
strips together so that I can be more independent than I am at this time.
I
already know how to make nots since I did that independently with my first
rag rug. I don't want to make nots because if I did, I would have to spend
three hours undoing the nots and soeing where the nots were made at a
later
time once the rug is finished. I have to make it look like it's high
quallity since the rag rugs that I am making will be put into the market.
I
have to soe the strips together since that is more exceptable in the
market
place and more ecanomical as well. I am hand-soeing the strips together.
They are layed out in a right angel and the soeing is at a dyaganal angle
going from the inside edge to the outside edge. After the soeing is
compleet, the corner on the outside is cut. I need advice on how to make
my
stiches better, how to stay on the course when I am soeing, how to stay at
the last stich when I go to make a not with the soeing thread to end my
dyaganal seem of my one inch long strips and any other advice and/or tips
that I have not concidered that a blind person would do as they soe. I
have
tried to use a safety pin to stay on course but have not had luck with
that.
I seam to go off the course even if I had only less than half an inch
around
where I am soeing. I am also a left handed person so if the advice that
you
all have could be for a left handed person will be very much appriciated!!!
If you wish to call me, my phone number is:
(503)367-9308.
I have free minutes on nights after 9:00 P.M. Pacific Standard Time and on
weekends. Since not all of you are on my time zone, you may also call me
if
you wish to talk to me via the phone durring most evenings. You may also
send me E Mails at any time day and night since I check it almost every
day.
I will let you know when I won't be able to check my E Mail just in the
case
that you still wish to contact me. Thank you for the advice that I have
recieved so far!!!
