Think I will just stick with my nifty knitter flower loom, thanks.

For the layered flowers size G hook and worsted weight were recommended. But
I suppose it would depend on what you wanted the flowers for. Some color
combos could be yellow and white for a daisy, or brown and yellow for a
black-eyed Susan.

What size crochet hook and what weight yarns work well?
Gee Whiz if folks don't get how to do this maybe we can have you do a class
or a evening crochet together.

Hi Joyce and all,
When I was making the cupcake last night in the class it reminded me of the
layered crocheted flowers I have made. Have you ever offered a class to
make them. they are actually called appliqués and are used to put on
clothing as decoration. They are quick and easy except when you are me!
The pattern:
Crocheted layered flower
To begin, wrap the yarn around your finger once and make a magic ring. If
you're not familiar with the magic ring, you can also just work into the
first slipknot-I do this quite often.
Start by working round 1 into the magic ring. Here I've chained 2 and am
about to hdc into the ring.
Round 1: Ch 5 (counts as hdc, ch 2), (hdc, ch 2) in ring 5 more times, sl
st in 3rd ch of beginning ch to join-6 ch-2 sps.
Round 2: (Sl st, hdc, 2 dc, hdc, sl st) in each ch-2 sp around, sl st in
first sl st to join-6 petals.
Turn to work on the back side of the flower for the next step.
This next step is where it can get a little tricky. You're going to work
the next round on the back side of the flower. Ch 1 to prepare. If you
like, you can also fasten off the yarn from the first set of petals and
change colors, which I did to more clearly illustrate the next steps. If
changing colors, join the new color around any dc post from round 1.
On the back side of the flower, make a single crochet around the first
double crochet from round 1.
Begin by bringing the hook under the post of the dc, yarn over, and draw a
loop to the side of the post closest to you. Bring the hook over the dc
post, yarn over, and draw the yarn through the 2 loops on your hook. Work
round 3 into the dc posts of the first round.
Round 3: Ch 1, sc around first dc from round 1, ch 5, (sc around next dc
from round 1, ch 5) 5 times, sl st in first sc to join-6 ch-6 loops.
Turn back to the right side of the flower and work round 4 into the ch-5
loops you just created on the back side of the flower.
To make the second layer of petals, you'll work into the ch-5 loops you
just created on the back side of the flower. Work round 4 with the right
side of the flower facing you, as shown above.
Round 4: (Sl st, hdc, 5 dc, hdc, sl st) in each ch-2 sp around, sl st in
first sl st to join-6 petals.
You can add more layers to your flower by working a 5th round of scs and
ch-5s (or ch-6s, or higher) around the same dc posts from round 1, and
working a 6th round of petals into those ch-spaces. Experiment with the
number of stitches in the petals of the later rounds to see what kind of
effects they give your flower.
An easy way to finish your flower is by sewing a button to the center.
You can also add fringe to the center of the flower.
Working with 1 or 2 strands at a time, double the strand and use your hook
to pull the loop end under one of the double crochets from round 1. Bring
the hook over the double crochet, and wrap the yarn ends around it, then
draw them through the loop on the hook. Pull the yarn ends taut and add
several more strands of fringe around each dc. When all of the fringe has
been added, trim it to a consistent length with scissors. I made mine
really short-----Original Message-----

Maybe I need to find some other fun small crochet projects to have classes
on. That way it would be fun for practice and a 1 or 2 class project.
This Cupcake one I have had for quite a while.

Hi Joyce,
I want to thank you for the nice class too. It was fun. I have a long way
to go before crocheting is my all time favorite pass time. lol But I
actually think I can do this. We'll see how things are next week. lol
I decided to start it over with a bigger hook and bigger yarn. If it
works, I am lucky. If it doesn't, I can say I tried. Also, I will know
more
about crocheting after trying.
