Gee whiz, we learn all different things over here at Krafters Korner.
Drier sheets to calm your dog?
What if I rub them on the Princesses when they walk in my back door? Do
you think it will work?

I'm told that rubbing an unused dryer sheet on a dog just before a thunder
strom calms them. I think it decreases the static in the fur caused by
the
coming storm.
Might have to try it on my cat, as my dog really doesn't care one way or
another about the storms

Thanks Joyce, I will certainly try this right away. Those dryer sheets are
amazing. I was told to put them in the storage spaces in our motor home to
keep out bugs and mice.

What to do about the musty smell.
Take a couple of those dryer sheets and just put them in the bottom of the
case. Make sure you don't use the dryer sheets first as you need the smell
to be strongest. So just leave it in there. Most of the time the box the
machine comes with is closed up and from time to time when the fresh smell
of the sheets don't hit you when you open it try leaving the sheets out to
see if the smell has left. If not just pop a new dryer sheet in there.
I have found that problem with machine cases and this has basically solved
it. Even the machine will get smelling good, too.

Jewell and all, I am a novice sewer but I have a Singer Feather weight and
will share with you what I have found. The reason I chose the Feather
weight was because Joyce had said she loved hers and my husband and I were
looking for a reliable machine that was small enough to take in our motor
home. While we were in Florida last winter, we met a man at a huge flea
market that sold nothing but Feather weights. He had one from 1937 for
$450. He showed me his leather belt that he had sewn on it. he said that
back then the machine was made with all metal parts.
I
believe it was sometime in the 1960's that, like most companies, they
started using some plastic parts. He convinced me that that was the
machine for us but I just couldn't pay $450. My husband found a 1957 on
ebay which we bought. We took it in to be cleaned and oiled, and the
repairman said Feather weights are the (darlings of quilters)
I am very happy with it but there are a couple of things to be aware of.
1. they only do a straight stitch. 2. If you buy an old machine like
mine, it could have a musty smell. Actually the smell is probably only in
the case and paperwork, but we have tried everything from sunlight,
charcoal and chemicals but it still smells bad.
Hope this helps.

Subject: Re: [Nfb-krafters-korner] Sewing Class
Hi Ramona,
I must apologize for my weird comment about "waddling through"
when asked
why I didn't intercede. I did not think it proper to interfere with your
teaching ability. You did a great job teaching the class as all the
students achieved their goal of attaching the pocket to he apron.
I must
also commend the students for their patience and perseverance.
As one
writer put it, we are all learning from each other and from our mistakes.
The concept of teaching sewing via phone is unique and
challenging. You
have all showed me that sewing can be done without sight and I regret now
that I gave hundreds of dollars worth of sewing tools and equipment away to
a thrift store in anger because I could no longer continue my passion of
sewing.
I have learned so much from this list and found out that I can do so much
even without sight. I thank Joyce for her work in starting this list and
maintaining it.
Now, since I am inspired, and I am looking for a machine, who makes the
Featherweight?
Love all of you guys and keep up the good work.
Jewell
