Which side of the needle does the stitch guide go on?  When I took sewing, in school, for some reason, wasn't the stitch guide on the left of the needle?  This was a long time ago.  Over 30 years ago!  
I am pretty sure the needle was on the left side of the machine.

Carol,
Are you using some type of guide to sew along?  I have clients use built up masking tape, thick magnets, straight edge from plastic canvas taped on along the right side of needle to have fabric bump up against.  One hand in front of needle keeping fabric flush with straight edge, and the other hand to the back of the needle helping guide things.

I am having a hard time sewing straight seams.  My husband, Ed, tells me it is because I am trying too hard.  He says the machine will sew straight if I just make sure the fabric is flat and free to be pulled by the machine.  I feel like I have to have my fingers up near the presser foot so I know what is happening.

Do any of you experienced sewers have an opinion?
