Yes, they talked about this too.  Heirloom quilts are wonderful and should be preserved if at all possible.

It was a great discussion that I caught.  Sorry I didn't make the whole conversation.

I don't recall who it was that was talking about that quilt, but, the quilt
tops I inherited from my grandmother, considered heirloom quilts because of
the era of the fabrics she used, had some pieces that were damaged either
from insects or age.  The woman I hired to quilt these tops replaced the few
pieces that were damaged and then quilted them.  Two are hand quilted and
the third one my sister-in-law has machine quilted.  She is quite a gifted
quilter.  Her quilts would probably be in the "art" category.

I am just saying that the quilt might have to be disassembled a little in
order to replace the pieces that are damaged, but it can be done if you want
to preserve the quilt.

What a great turnout.  I was caller 17 when I called in.  Sounded like some
great discussion going on.  I loved the idea of making placemats out of an
old quilt when it can't be salvaged.
