I was pearling the way Terrence was, that was my problem. 
I thought, like him, that pearling was jut wrapping the opposite of a knit
and knitting off.

It means to knit all the way around the loom and wrap and then perl all the
way around the loom.  Wrap and knit, then wrap and perl.  I have the same
problem, some times.  Hold the yarn loosely when wrapping.  You do not want
to be pulling on it or to have tention.  Practice with just knitting until
you can get a smoth wrat and knit, wrap and knit.

I'm trying to make a pattern on my knifty knitter that calls for a garter
stitch. The pattern says to knit odd rows and pearl even ones.  For some
reason, when I try this, my yarn gets too tight no matter how loose I wrap
it and almost always breaks.  Maybe I have the pearl stitch wrong, or does
the pattern actually mean to k1p1 instead of knitting one row than pearling
the next?  Any help would be appreciated.
