Miranda,
Welcome to the group. I am new myself and I crochet. I joined
because I wanted to learn more about crocheting by feel. Also I want to
learn more crafting. Soapmaking sounds good and beading. Just don't know
where to start yet.

Subject: [Nfb-krafters-korner] New list member interested in crafting

Hi,

I am new to this list, and I am interested in crafting. I am completely
Blind and have been since birth.

I'd like to use crafting as a hobby, for gift giving and maybe to sell.

My husband and I are planning an international trip, and I thought it would
be fun to pick up a new hobby of crafting while helping to raise funds for
this trip.

I realize that crafting takes time, and it's not free, but I'm looking for
something to start that's not going to break the bank so to speak.

My mom was very crafty while I was growing up, but I just didn't have the
patience to join her in her crafting ventures.

I'm not even sure what all I'd be interested in exploring. The only crafts I
ever have done were make these candle holders with jell beads, a glass jar
and water. Sorry, I can't think of the name, but I can remember that much.

I also started making a rug at our local rehab center for the Blind in 2002.
I don't remember much of how to make the rug or the technical name of this
particular craft, but I remember the yarn being thick and I think I wrapped
the yarn around wooden dowels? Maybe that's a hook rug. Maybe not? Sorry, I
may seem silly or rediculus, but I really can't remember the specifics.

I have also done a bit of soapstone sculpting at a summer art camp for a
couple weeks as a teenager.

Now that I've told the extent of my crafting does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give, and have a great week!

In Christ, Miranda
