Hi Cathy --
Now that is a good idea -- wearing your abacus, kind of like a primitive
calculator on your wrist...:)

A few comments/questions:
First, I understand the 2 horizontal bars and the 4 perpendicular ribbons
with the beads. However, this must be a different type of abacus than the
one I learned back when I was a child. The abacus I used had 5 beads on
each column -- 4 for 1s, 1 for 5s, with a stopper separator between the 1s
beads and the single 5 bead.
Then if there were 4 columns, which sounds similar to your bracelet, The
maximum number would be 9999.
Once you learn the proper technique to use on the abacus, it really is a
nice little calculator -- you can add/subtract/multiply/divid if you are
really advanced.
Am I making sense?
I wonder if I could order one of these bracelets to see if it really works.
Where did you order from? It would be fun wearing that and doing
calculations tactily.

Happy krafting!

Hi all,

Another update:

I have just tightened the bracelet so that it will not slide around on my
wrist. Now I find that if I simply roll a bead with one finger I can move it
into place! I simply hold my work in one hand, the one with the bracelet on
and move the beads with a finger of the other hand. Much easier to use now
and probably it shows that on the package! <smile>

Cathy
