Great ideas! I like the leather thimble, the best!
Sure wish I could get one for beading!

A couple of suggestions:

When I was running my craft business going back a while ago I made Clown dolls. This was while my kids were growing up. I did an awful lot of hand sewing with this. I did have the problem of sticking the back of the needle into my finger a lot. Here is how I solved it.

I used mole skin that you can get in your foot care department and cut a piece to cover the area of my finger pad. I could tape it to my finger and put 2 on top of each other. This did not cover my entire finger as I trimmed it. I did not like thimbles, but this worked great. It is cheap and several squares come in one package. It has an adhesive and sticks well. I also have a leather thimble that I use now. I got it up at Keepsake quilting. It is a soft leather, but it has an extra padding right where you need it. It basically is long and comes down to the second joint of your finger. It has an elastic sewn inside the leather to keep it snug between the first and second joint. I cherish this thimble as it is perfect.

thanks, Neva. I cannot use the Big Eye needle for encrusted beadwork. You

have to work through thick layers and really move the needle around a lot
-
weaving in and out of very tight places - You have to be able to really
push
hard on the needle as you are working and the big eye needle goes right
into
your fingers - ouch!
