Subject: [Nfb-krafters-korner] a beaded safety pin flower pot

Hi all,

I am excited to share with all of you that I have finished my first safety
pin project using my own design! Maybe you are not surprised by this, but I
sure am, since I'm usually not real creative. However, the last safety pin
project I made just did not turn out well so I had taken it apart and
decided I needed to make something else so the beads would not go to waste.
A friend in my garden club suggested that I make a decorative flower pot
cover, and I liked the idea, so began to plan it out. I had a number of
different sized pins and beads and played around with them till I found
something that felt like it would look nice to me. I chose number three
safety pins and the 18mm star beads from the gingerbread house. they are a
reddish brown which would look nice against the green of leaves. I decided I
wanted my container to hold a six inch pot and grabbed some wire and wound
the wire around my pot to measure it, then left some extra for twisting
tight. I looked through my beads and saw that I had some 12mm crystal beads
that I thought would be nice on the bottom, and might lift the pot off the
surface of the table somewhat. so I made my first row using 6mm crystals as
spacers and liked it. this row does not show, it is like a rim around the
bottom of the pot. So next I began my building of the pot. I built it using
18mm stars, 8 on each safety pin, and there were 26 pins in each row along
with 6 or perhaps 8 MM spacers which were also root beer. I made a total of
three rows. To attach the last row I went with a combination of 8mm red
faceted and 6mm root beer faceted. it seemed decorative to me.

I didn't really plan this, but the combination of beads I put on my last row
caused the pot to flair a bit on top and I think it looks quite nice!

So the six-inch plastic water catcher and pot fit perfectly inside and are
completely hidden by the pins and beads, even on the rim. now all it needs
is a plant.

I just learned the other night that our garden club is doing something
different for our Xmas party this year. There is going to be a table in the
back where we can sell our craft items to one another. hmm, should I take
the flower pot in or keep it? if I sell it, what might be a reasonable price
for such an item? I could use any money I can get at the moment. But I don't
just want to give it away, unless of course it is as a gift to some special
some one.

Wow, with smaller pins and beads I could make a smaller more delicate pot.
Flower pots for all seasons. Perhaps I'm on to something here?

The more I learn, the more I want to learn!

Cathy
