You should not be making a new stitch.  It is exactly as it reeds, bring 
yarn in front, slip the stitch as if to knit which will twist that stitch 
and then remain on your right needle, put yarn in the back side of your work 
, this just makes that slipped stitch like a double knit stitch and you keep 
right on going.
