It is on the same street as the Milano Hotel. It is on Fortaleza
St.in Old
San Juan. http://www.hotelmilanopr.com/

If you are leaving the hotel, going out the front door:
Turn LEFT. It is on the opposite side of the street from the
hotel. Go
about 1 block down Fortaleza Street, and on your right as you
walk down the
street. I do not remember the name of it but you will smell the
incense from
the street. The window is full of eastern type of things. The
store is
crammed packed with clothing, and to the right as you enter is a
very large
display of incense - the best I have ever found anywhere. There
is wonderful
soaps in scents that are like the incense, and lovely incense
burners. To
the left there is clothing - racks of lovely colorful skirts
($10. EACH) iI
buy several every year and lovely tops to match the skirts. They
have great
PR Tshirts, too - very very heavy cotton, not cheap ones that get
nasty
after washing. These ones, I can wear for years, they are made
so well. The
lady who owns the shopis OLD and appears to be CRANKY. But, if
she warms to
you, she is very generous and lovely. If you go there, remind
her of the
lady who comes in every year with her white cane - she gives me
GIFTS every
year and she hugs me. I will be there the end of March, for 2
weeks so I
will be going to see her. I will see if Bob has the receipts
from the store
from last year, and if so, I will get you the name of it. The
things in her
store are of very good quality - not the touristy junk that many
of the
other stores have. The lady lives only a block away from her
store, in
another building on the same street.

Linda, Do you remember the name of the store you like to shop at
in PR?

well, I do have a large tote bag that I take along in my carry
on bag - so
 I
can fill it up and bring lots of PR coffee home with me! Want to
try
 fitting
 into that tote?

I used to buy a lot of my gemstones there in OSJ, but the store
is no
 longer
there. I bought wonderful things I never could find anywhere
else - I was
 so
sad last year when I arrived and my store was gone. There is
one other
 store
that is my favorite there - I buy lots of incense, skirts, and
tops there
 at
the store I like so much. I love the colors of PR and my house
is painted
 in
those colors inside and outside. Lots of COLOR -

Lynda, do you have space in your bag for an extra person?

What are you reaching out for in PR?
I am there every year in March or April. No summers in PR for
me! We
love PR. I used to teach a course at the college on Puerto
Rican
culture - it is a very special place. Very very wonderful
people, great
art galleries and museums, and architecture that is spectacular.
and, the
food - delicious! I took students there every year, and now that
I am
retired my husband and I go every year. this year we will take
my sister
and her husband along. We love taking people there and showing
them the
special places all over the island. Yes, I will be knitting on
the way
there, knitting when I am sitting in the town squares, and
knitting on
the way home! I always knit something really nice to wear when I
leave
 for the journey to PR.

Have a good time in Puerto Rico! I've been lucky to be able to
go on an
outreach trip there for the past two summers. Leave it to me to
go to
Puerto Rico in August! But, I loved it!

No idea. I just know I lost my needles if Frankfurt because
theyw ere
straight ones. Sooooo, I never intend to lose them again. and,
flying as
a blind person is not a very nice thing to do anyway if you are
alone -
they can be so nasty to you that you think you are a criminal -
and you
are treated as one, too. So I take no chances on anything that
even
remotely might cause me a problem any more. I'll be leaving for
puerto
rico shortly with my circular needles. No problems!

Okay, dumb question - why are the circular ones okay but the
other ones
aren't? I'm using circular ones anyway, but geesh, if you really
wanted
to do something rotten, I'd think it could be accompished either
way.
 Hmmmm..grin!

Take ONLY circular needles to be sure they don't get taken away
from you!
And, I take a letter opener instead of scissor to be sure I
don't lose my
 scissor, too.
I knit everywhere I travel - the only place I had any trouble
with
knitting needles was in Frankfort, GR. but I do not take any
chances - I
use circulars because I know there will be no problems. Lynda

I've taken up knitting just in the last month (as mentioned in
the last
post.) I'm about to leave again for another month on the road.
I'll be
spending a lot of time in airplanes and airports and want to
take my
knitting with me. Will TSA give me any hassle about the
needles?
