[Nfb-krafters-korner] Question about knitting needles and flying

Wow! Yes, people think of beading as a craft, and they think of knitting as a craft. I suppose they both can be a craft, but I tend to think of them as art. Some of the knitting patterns people do are absolutely amazing. Can I have some of that energy and positive can-do attitude? Caffeine isn't doing it. *smile*

Warm regards,

I do not do crafts, as such, but I use craft materials to make art.

The reason I can do almost any art form is that when you are working on your
BFA degree, you take courses in just about every art genre so that you can
then figure out what speaks to you the best, and then you concentrate on
that form - for me it was painting. So you have to concentrate on your
medium, and then do a one person gallery exhibition before you graduate.
That is the BFA degree, because it is the degree you do when you plan to go
on and do the terminal degree, which is the MFA. When doing the MFA you only
work in your concentration area, you write a thesis which is really a book,
and you have a one person gallery exhibition to do that degree.

The only art form I did NOT do in college is metalsmithing and sculpture. I
did everything else. And, since drawing is the foundation of everything in
art, I did life drawing every semester for the entire 4 years as an
undergraduate, and of course, I painted every semester.
But, before I even started to pursue my academic career, I had been painting
for years, and was showing my work internationally.

It is strange, but when you go on to teach on the univesity level, you
normally teach things you know nothing about at some point. I never studied
philosophy, yet had to teach philosopy for 12 years as part of the
Humanities program. My daughter never had a drama class in college, and her
first job was teaching drama and putting on one play every May. Everyone
does this, and we always laugh as we were always designing new courses and
lots of times we were just an hour ahead of our students! It keeps things
exciting, and you truly ARE a life long learner which is what you hope to
instill in your students. Education is not job training, it is life long
  learning.

I love all the arts, all forms of art. I love dance very much, contemporary
dance. And, music, is pure magic.
I can honestly say I never had a course in any subject that I did not like -
loved the sciences, loved the psych classes, and the others. Everything was
  exciting to me.

I think that is why I have embraced sight loss very well, it is a new
adventure and I have had to learn so much.
