Dixie,
Not sure what you are asking in question #1. Side to side I think....#2. The hand towel is folded in half so you are sewing the pot holder to the hand towel down the center of both. Take the hand towel and place it out in front of you. Leave the towel folded like it comes from the store with the towel folded in half and the sides are usually folded in toward the center. You want the towel the same width as the pot holder you are using. If you are using a towel that you had on hand, go ahead and just fold the towel so the sides are folded inward and the towel is then folded in half. Go by the size of your potholder. If the pot holder is a 5" square, then fold the towel so the width of the folded towel is 5" keeping the sides folded even on both sides. AT the exact fold of the towel is where you will be stitching on the pot holder! You should make sure that half of the potholder is on each side of the fold of the towel. Stitch it down!

#3. Sew the button on where it fits with the loop. You will be sewing the button on the potholder and on the opposite side from the loop. Pretend that you are going to button the potholder closed and sew the button on where it can be easily unbuttoned, and not too far away that it makes it hard to button.

Hope that is all as clear as mud! *SMILE

I am a bit confused.

I have a few questions:
1. When we sew down the center of the potholder is it from top to bottom or
side to side? 2. Where do we sew the potholder onto the towel? At the
fold mark we have just made?
3. Finally, where does the button get sewn onto? I understand that the
loop on the potholder is the button hole, but where is the button placed?

Thanks,

 Dixie

I have a quick and easy project for you! You purchase a pot holder and
kitchen hand towel that match or coordinate well together.

Locate the middle of the hand towel usually they are folded this way anyway.
Sew down the center of the pot holder with the "pretty side" out to the hand
towel. All you are doing is making one straight stitch which attaches the
pot holder to the hand towel. The loop of the pot holder becomes the button
hole. Line it up and sew on a large button. Now this pot holder will go
around the handle of your oven door. The button holds it in place.

Quick easy gifts!

Cindy Z.
