[Nfb-krafters-korner] live long enough

I like to see the successful outcome that I am proud of. That is why I started the KK scarf, twice and still was not satisfied with it, but Tonya told me about another way, that I think I will like. It is working a lot better. So far I like the outcome. A lot of wasted yarn, but that is how you learn. At least the yarn was, luckly, on sale!

I defintely am living long enough to start all those crafting projects..., but I keep finding new ones. Do I really have to finish them? I like the process of exploring new crafting skills, figuring out how as a blind person I can do it [that's the part I love], then doing enough of it to become comfortable or find out tips and tricks, then I get boared and want to try something new...

When I had enough vision to use graph paper 4 blocks per inch, I worked out a pattern for the school emblem and put it on a blank canvas and then filled in with a white background. Several years ago I bought the yarn and blank canvas to make a picture frame rug for my entryway, but it is still an unstarted project. I do love the idea of being able to latch hook a complicated pattern with the use of a spread sheet or a recording. A way to stock pile accessible patterns would be great. I hope I live long enough to make all the projects I want to finish.

Hmmm..I will see if I can dig them up. I like wildlife and patriotic stuff.
I also found some Disney ones that would be fun. There was a Cinderella and a Beauty and the Beast my girls would just love. They are pretty expensive though, like $60 for the Disney ones.

Michael,
Oh, that is a great idea about using a spreadsheet! I love my spreadsheets and use them for all kinds of things.
Would you mind sending a link to some of the latch hook kits you are interested in and perhaps others will be interested as well, (particularly me), and we might get a class together!

Cathy,
I don't recall what I did, I think a clown was one of them, but it has been 20 years ago. For keeping the yarn organized I used little zip lock bags with a Braille label, and a Tupperware container I think. It was for a fruit and vegetable tray, I think, It was divided up like a pie with a center area for dip or something. When the lid was on, stuff could not move between compartments.
For patterns I just had some one give me the instructions and I Brailed them out. Starting at the bottom was row one, and working up from there. It would look like
1. 4 blue, 6 red, 32 orange
When I completed a row, I erased the row number.
If I were to do it now, I would probably use a spread sheet, then I could have someone else type the instructions in and that part would go faster
I have looked at some kits online, and there are some I would be interested in doing.
Michael

Hi Michael,
Welcome to the list. There are a lot of different classes and discussions going on right now, but unfortunately not in the things which you expressed interest.
I also did latch hook years ago, but no longer have my pattern book.
How did you latch hook, with a pattern book, a kit or free form design?
What
did you make with latch hook?
I made an owl, and several geometric designs from my pattern book.
I made a picture of flowers from a kit with help from a friend with the instructions.
The trickiest part of latch hooking for me was keeping my yarn colors organized. The last pattern I did had twelve colors. Yikes!

Hi,
I am one of the new people to the list. I am interested in soap making, but I have not seen none of that going on here so far. I also do woodworking. I have done latch hook a long time ago, and thought of maybe doing some of that again.

I would like to send our new list members a welcome. We have had at least
3 new people join the list this week and a few more since the holidays.
So please do introduce yourselves. Let us know what type of crafting you
are enjoying or would like to learn. Take a look over on our website as
we
have new classes coming up in the next few weeks.
A big welcome to everyone. If you have been lurking and want to send out a shout, now is the time!
