I don't know if anyone would like a bar of soap that smells like green
grass, but maybe...

Picnic Soap
With summer off to a glorious start, we are thinking of days spent
outside even while we are in the Soap Lab. This cute little bar is reminiscent of
a picnic blanket (ants are optional). Scented with our Grass Stain
fragrance and colored with Non-Bleeding Cherry and Liquid Green Oxide, we've
captured the essence of summer in one little bar of soap!

MCustom/KitRecipeHandler.ashx?recipe=picnicsoap)
ONE: Melt 10 ounces of Clear Melt & Pour on 30 second bursts in the
microwave, stirring between bursts. Once the soap is fully melted, split in two 5
ounce batches.
TWO: Color each batch, one with 3 drops Non-Bleeding Cherry, one with 2
drops Liquid Green Oxide and two drops Citrus Green LabColor. Mix color in
well and once the soap has cooled to 130 degrees, pour each batch into a
Brownie Tray Mold and spray with Isopropyl Alcohol to pop any bubbles. Allow
to fully harden. If using just one tray allow to set-up, peel the soap out
and re-melt and pour the other color.
THREE: While the green and cherry soaps are hardening, melt 6 ounces of
White Melt & Pour on 30 second bursts in the microwave, stirring between
bursts. When fully melted, add 3 mL of Grass Stain fragrance oil and mix well.
When the soap cools to 130 degrees, pour one ounce of White Melt & Pour
into each cavity (you will use 6) of your Square Silicone Mold and spray
with Isopropyl Alcohol to pop any bubbles. Allow to fully harden.
FOUR: While the white soap is hardening, unmold and cut the cherry-colored
soap into strips, varying in width but no wider than 1/4” each. If you’d
prefer a more uniform look, measure each strip exactly, otherwise this
step is totally fine to eyeball. Once all of the strips are cut, cut each
strip into 2 1/4” lengths (you should be able to get 3 lengths per strip).
Unmold and cut the green colored soap and cut into strips that are 3/4” wide
each. Cut opposite angles, on one side of the green soap strip, at random
intervals to mimic the look of grass.
FIVE: Once the white soap has fully hardened, arrange green grass strips
along the four walls of the square cavities with the pointy sides up. For
the best fit, cut each of the strips as you go. Once all of the grass strips
are arranged in the cavities, melt 16 ounces of Clear Melt & Pour base.
When fully melted, add 10 mL of Grass Stain fragrance oil and mix well.
SIX: When the clear soap is 125 F or less, liberally spray the space
between the grass with Isopropyl Alcohol and fill about 1/2 way with clear soap
to secure the strips (you’ll have some clear soap left over). Spray again
with Isopropyl Alcohol to pop any bubbles. Allow the clear soap to fully
harden.
SEVEN: Liberally spray 36 cherry strips with Isopropyl Alcohol. Arrange
six strips horizontally in each cavity, and pour a thin layer of clear soap
over them (you may have to reheat it a bit but be sure it is just 125 F or
less). Spray with Isopropyl Alcohol to pop any bubbles and allow to harden.
Once the clear soap has hardened, liberally spray another 36 cherry
strips with Isopropyl Alcohol and arrange six strips vertically in each cavity.
Pour the remaining clear soap over the strips and spray with Isopropyl
Alcohol to pop any bubbles.
optional: After you’ve poured the final layer of clear soap, stick novelty
plastic ants that have been sprayed with Isopropyl Alcohol into the top.
It’s okay if they don’t sink into the soap all the way; it adds interest
if they don’t! Spray entire soap surface with Isopropyl Alcohol to pop any
bubbles.
EIGHT: Once the soaps have fully hardened, unmold and wrap as soon as
possible to avoid glycerin dew.
