Lillians Sunflower Sachet

C2006, L. Myers

Pattern using the blue Kniffty Knitter loom

This pattern is done with each part knitted on the loom as you go.

Supplies: You will not need much yarn for this pattern...

.

Small amount of worsted weight brown, green and yellow yarn.

.

Tapestry or yarn needle.

.

Blue 24-peg KK loom and pick.

.

Small bag of potpourri or wax chips... (Whatever you would like to stuff
inside the pocket)

Always start and end with a long yarn tail for weaving and tying off.

For center:

With brown yarn, e-wrap and knit off three rows. Reach inside of loom and
pull up first

row of stitches. Place on pegs. You have two loops on each peg. E-wrap all
pegs and knit

off 2 over 1.

Wrap and knit off once more. u This is the row you will use to re-attach the
center to

loom later.

Middle of sunflower pattern:

Row 1: Wrap 1st peg, skip one, wrap two pegs, skip one....continue around
loom wrapping the last peg. Knit off pegs just wrapped.

Row 2: Skip 1st peg, wrap next peg, skip 3rd peg, wrap next two pegs, skip
one, wrap two, continue to last peg, do not wrap last peg. Knit off pegs
just wrapped.

Repeat middle pattern 2 more times (total of six rows).

Cut a long tail and with needle gather off loops from loom.

Starting with the first peg, use the needle to sew through the

yarn loop on each peg, moving from the bottom of the peg to

the top of the peg. After you thread through a loop, pull the

loop up and over the peg. Continue this until you have sewn

through all the loops and pulled them all off their pegs. (Make

sure the end of the yarn is still sticking out of the first loop you

pulled off.)

Pull center tightly closed and

thread yarn to inside. uu It is important you tie off the starting yarn tail
and not just

weave in. (I wove it in the center and gently tied it to the center tail).

Re-attach center to loom:

With back of center facing up re-attach to loom with last brown row
e-wrapped before

starting center pattern.

Beginning row of petals:

Row 1: E-wrap all pegs with yellow yarn and knit off brown loops.

I-cord petals:

1st petal: Take yarn behind 1st peg, around front then back behind 2nd peg,
around front

of 1st peg. Knit off. Repeat on the same two pegs for 12 rows.

2nd petal: Take yarn between 2nd and 3rd peg. Wrap peg 2 and 3 as you did 1
and 2, for

12 rows. Continue with I-cord pattern around loom with pegs 3-4, 4-5,
5-6,...etc. u As

you work the petals, gently push the I-cord down toward the inside of the
loom.

As you come around the loom you will be wrapping the 23rd and 24th pegs,
then wrap

the 24th and the 1st peg for the last petal. (24 I-cord petals).

>From inside of the loom pull up the first yellow e-wrapped row (Row 1) and
place on

the pegs, e-wrap all pegs once more, knit off 2 over 1. Cut and tie off both
yellow yarn

tails.

Sunflower leaves:

With green yarn e-wrap first 7 pegs. You will be knitting 5 rows wrapping
back and

forth using all seven pegs each time.

At the end of row 5, the free yarn should be at your right. Move the loop
from the 1st peg

on the loom over to the 2nd peg. Wrap all 6 pegs, last peg on the left will
have three loops,

knit it off 2 over 1. Wrap and knit off all 6 back.

With free yarn at your right, move loop from peg 2 over peg 3. Wrap and knit
off all 5

pegs, with last peg 2 over 1. Wrap and knit off all 5 back.

With free yarn at your right, move loop from peg 3 over peg 4. Wrap and knit
off all 4

pegs, with last 2 over 1. Wrap and knit off all 4 back.

Continuing in this pattern...

Move peg 4 over peg 5. Wrap and knit off all 3 pegs, and back again.

Move peg 5 over peg 6. You will have two pegs left...peg 6 now has two
loops. Wrap 7

and 6, knit off as before.

Move the last loop from peg 6 and place on peg 7. With two loops now on peg
7, knit

one loop off, cut yarn and with needle remove loop from loom. Pull slightly
to tighten and

weave in tail down side of leaf. Take the beginning green yarn and weave
into leaf.

Be careful to not pull off the other loops you have remaining on loom.

Tuck the leaf inside the loom. Now reach in and find the same yellow loops
that were on

the pegs as you started the leaf and place them back on the pegs.

Skip two pegs and repeat leaf pattern.

Back pocket of sunflower:

With green yarn e-wrap and knit off all pegs for 4 rows, cut yarn. Using
needle and

long tail, gather off loops. This will form the pocket.

Place the contents you wish to use in the pocket and pull the loops
together. You may

tie off the yarn or weave in so that you can open the pocket again.

Tie a ribbon or piece of yarn to the back if you wish to hang your
sunflower.

I hope you enjoy this pattern.
