Hello and thank you for asking. Sorry I didn't do that earlier in my first
post.
I am from Southern California, in the Los Angeles area.
I am 43. Totally blind. I learned to hand knit in highschool. We had a basic
sewing class and at that time, sewing machines were not adapted for the
blind.
So, a couple of my friends were taking the class and were blind as well.
They learned to make a basic ribbed scarf. I saw what each of them were
doing and wanted to get involved in the class.
I started the scarf but later took it apart after the class had ended.
I was a real slow knitter but now, people watch me knit and they can't
believe how I can knit and not be able to see. I knit for charities and
also, to make something on the side to supplement my income.
I also learned to loom knit after a few people that are on this list talked
about it. I figure on trying it myself. I started on the Knifty Knitter loom
set I purchased a few months ago.
Just doing the basic Ewrap stitch on hats and scarves on the round loom.
I haven't going further on making afghans or anything that require flat loom
knitting yet.
I bought my first long loom set a few weeks ago. Was frustrated with trying
the figure 8 cast on. Kathy had told me about this group and the classes
offered here.
I recall being in this list before but didn't have the money to signup for
the membership so dropped out.
So, I signed up for the list as well as the classes.
I want to learn as much as I can. I don't have the room for a sewing machine
in my little studio apt but want to learn to hand quilt or hand sew things.
I want to try my hand at basketry and beading as well.
When I am able to get all the supplies to work on that, I will signup for
the classes in the future. I had done both plastic canvass and latchook in
JR. High.
But, never gone back in to it.
Well, sorry my post was long. I tend to write like that and never keep it
real basic and short.
Thanks again for the welcome and I look forward to meeting all of you one
day in the class.
