Diane, if you are confident knitting, pearling, casting on, casting off,
then just keep taking on new things as you find something you want to make.
Changing yarn can be done in more than one way; increasing and decreasing
can, too. Cables are a little more complicated, and there are many of them.
If you like making complicated things, you can take on more than one new
thing in one project, but one at a time is better for me. If your knitting
is smooth and even, and you are enjoying it, then you are the best judge of
trying new things. Many patterns just involve knitting and pearling, but
they can look pretty impressive. I have a book with a whole bunch of
different stitch designs that can be used for afghans, scarves, sweaters, or
about anything else you want to do, and most of them are just knitting and
pearling. I would guess that many yarn shops have something similar. Mine
is in Braille, and probably harder to find, but I know you can get things
like it in print. Don't be discouraged by having someone say something is
medium and advanced. Just look at the techniques that are used and see how
many you already know. I make lots of things that some would consider boring
because I like to knit during meetings, and I don't want to follow
complicated patterns. But I have knitted more than 150 sweaters and plenty
of other things, most of which are relatively simple patterns. during
meetings. I make a sweater with a three-color yoke which I would say is
relatively simple, as long as you can count to eight. The more experience
you have, the more you can figure out your own variations if you want to.
This group is good at giving moral support, so you have at least one source
for problem solving.
