The reason is that she is referring to flower pot holders. You hang the
pot in it and hang on a hook in your window or outside.

I know. My question is why the hot pads could not be used for food. She
strongly said, not for food.

Why not for food. Wicker is used for hot food.

Macramé uses cord rather than yarn so it does not stretch. There's a link
on our resource page to a source. I have ordered from them and they have
nice cords. It's called the macramé super store. I took a macramé class at
the rec center when I was in college and learned the basic knots through
making a wall hanging. We used a thick foam board covered in 1 inch square
checkerboard fabric to help with measuring, giant T pins to hold the work
against the board so your knots laid flat once you completed a section and
needed to attach the next section. It's important to find a pattern for what you
want to make because the measuring of the cord can be deceiving. My
recollection from the late 70's and early 80's is that you need at least 3 times
the amount of cord for each strand of the finished size. It's
heartbreaking to work up something only to run out of cord before you finish it. I have
made wall hangings, pot holders, for plants not hot food, hanging tables
and lamp shades but it has been a long time.

Be kind, always. It is the most important rule of man; be kind in all
things. Anger steals your joy, fear steals your heart, worry steals your life.
But, in kindness there is never a fault...Steve Carter

Hi Kendra,
So there is a specific yarn for macrame then? I looked on Bard also but
no, I didn't see any books on Macrame. '-( But my interest has been peaked,
so now I'm going to have to look into it. '-D On Sep 12, 2012, at 4:35 PM,
