Jill, I used to work for SSA too. I was a Service Rep in the
Detroit teleservice center. That was before computers were
accessible.

I have seen painted Styrofoam balls at hobby lobby and maybe
walmart also.
I bought some a few years ago to donate at my old office for
decorating the
Christmas tree in the lobby. I bought navy blue with sparkles
because we
were doing a patriotic theme since it was a SSA office.

I was talking to henry about using spray painted balls, if we
could not get
the right balls. This might hold up better, if we could get

An idea for those who are low vision, my husband took puffy paint
and wrote
a name in tactile print with the paint and I made the name in
Braille on
label tape for the kids in Lucas' class last year. It was on
plastic
Christmas balls. I think the idea of the beads and or ball pins
sounds
great on the satin balls. What could you use to help the
raveling on the
satin balls? My kids seem to be able to get those strands of
satin all over

Making Braille with beads on the styrophoam, I would not use the
pins with
the big heads. You would want the color beads to be your round
dots for the
Braille and have control of the color of beads.

This summer I saw a beaded christmas tree ornament at a craft
shop.
The
lady that made it said it was easy to make and my
sister-in-law told
me it looks very elegant.
You use a round glass ornament and string beads on it to make
a
beaded
netting over the ball. I have not made one yet, but I have
found
instructions on the internet.
