hi Portia, well, some patterns are more difficult than others of course. but yes, you can easily make a shawl on a loom. I would suggest two strands held together or 5-ply or 6-ply yarn for the KK looms. being as you live in Calif you may wish to go with the two strands so it isn't too hot of a shawl. Cathy
