Well, I'm so glad I grab your attention with this scarf pattern using short
row shaping. Yes, short rows are something that you can use when knitting
the heel of a sock, and for the many examples Kathy found. However in this
pattern it creates triangular sections of knitting to form a flat scarf.

Annette

Subject: [Nfb-krafters-korner] short row shaping

Hi all,

I have been researching ... yes of course all of you know that is what I do
when I don't know something! Anyhow, I wanted to understand what short row
shaping was particularly after Terry questioned my comment that it was like
the wrap and turn when knitting a heel. I thought to myself, oops, maybe I
don't know what I am talking about!

I had suggested that because one of the techniques for doing short row
shaping on needles is called wrap and turn. But perhaps it is not like
making a heel on the loom at all.

So I asked myself what is short row shaping and what is it for?

Answer is that it is a technique used to shape garments such as shoulders,
necklines and bust. Apparently, there are four different ways to do short
row shaping on needles. I saw a free online class offered on this topic and
the class description was as follows:

What You'll Learn in Short Rows

*	The standard wrap & turn and three variations
*	Make invisible short-row joins
*	Create seamless set-in sleeves
*	Construct custom bust darts to your exact measurements
*	Shape yokes, hemlines, elbows, waistlines, and more
*	Combine short rows with a 3-needle bind-off to create stepless
shoulders

What I don't know at this point is how to do any of these methods or how
they will be used to make a scarf? I will leave that to you Annette.

Cathy
