 Lillie;
I am doing something related, on my new computer. I made a folder called sites and books. This is where I am putting e-mails about different sites and books that I might want to read or buy or refer to. They are not all craft related.

Subject: [Nfb-krafters-korner] compiling a list of books to help with crafting

Hi all

I was brainstorming ways and ideas that I could not only help myself with crafting, but this devision and future people what would join it as well.

The main idea that I came up with was a book list.

I'm pretty sure that I was not the only one that came on this list with ideas of what I possibly wanted to do, but no real crafting skills. There were not a lot of beginner classes at the time for what I wanted to do.
Therefore, I could not join more advanced classes.

There are a lot of good books and internet resources out there to teach someone almost anything, but the trick is finding the best ones that to me at least, explain the concept in clear but yet detailed directions enough that I know what the product looks like without using pictures; or at least, that the pictures are supplemental to the text.

My idea was compiling a list of these resources together so that for beginner or more advanced crafters had an abundance of places to look for their questions to be answered.

This would not illiminate the need for beginner classes or questions about crafting on the listserve. Personally, I think it would serve for a more engaged listserve, as well as create more opportunities for more possible teachers to teach possible classes.

My plans were for each book or site listed to contain the title and author of the book or link to the site, as well as a summary of several sentences stating why it was chosen for the list. If it were a book there could be a place where it could be found (bookshare, nls, for example.)

I understand that not everyone learns this way, and I am not saying we should just send someone off to a book and turn them away from the list.

For example, if someone writes to the list wanting to know more about knitting, it is kind of hard to describe knitting in just an email.

The list could tell that person that these books could help with knitting, and to email with any questions.

I know that is probably not a good explanation. I plan working on this list for my own personal reference anyway, so I could probably provide a few examples in the coming weeks if that was requested.

We could also maybe post this list to the website under the resources page, although that mainly focuses on supplies and patterns, so I'm not sure about that. I would be willing to spearhead this project or help in any way if this were to turn into something.

If no one is interested, that's fine;I just thought this may be a good way to help, and I'd be more than happy to hear any feedback.

Thanks,

Lillie
