Wow, Deidra, you have that determination we all need when learning a new
project. Good for you! Jake sends high paws!

Subject: [Nfb-krafters-korner] casting on

Last night I screwed up two separate pieces of knitting that had been
started for me. That long piece of yarn kept winding up on the right. I
couldn't figure out why the finished part of knitting never seem to stay
hanging down on the left needle. One set of knitting was on straight needles
and the other on a circular. The circular was all over the place though I
liked the plastic feel of the tips better.
I then tried to start at the beginning with casting on using a thick
4 ply yarn and some big wooden needles. The needles were a pain - too long
and fat. I followed the instructions in The Touch of Yarn. I couldn't do it.
I was eager to try again this morning. I went back to the page on casting
on. I took one of Annette's first tips seriously, the one that said to go
slow.
I think I just cast on my first row of ten stitches. I won't be able
to verify that until I see my neighbor but it feels right to me. Oh how I
wish I had some space markers already to mark the success! Do the space
markers actually help keep the stitches from falling off the needle?
I'm now terrified to even pick what I did up for fear the learning will
evaporate. There is something called latent learning. I think I'll just let
it absorb before I try again later. I might even try to cast on a row of
stitches once more. Maybe my knit picks will come today.

	Deidre
