Hi knitters,

I am so happy that Deidre is progressing in her knitting! now I am excited
to share my own progress.

I found the cast-on technique we learned really good, because it was
actually knitting the first row as you cast-on. initially I did a lot of
cast-on, then taking it off and casting it on again, till I did not make
mistakes. When I did make a mistake, I tried to figure out what I had done
wrong. I was able to break the knitting process into steps, that if I did
slowly, would turn out right. If I skipped a step I knew right away with the
cast-on.

So once I got the hang of that, I moved on to the knitting. I had difficulty
with the European style, so I just focused on the steps again till I could
knit several rows correctly, any way I could.

These are the steps that I do, slowly and thoughtfully:

1.	place right needle up under loop on left needle.
2.	yarn over.
3.	twist right needle so that it goes under stitch.
4. take stitch off left needle using right needle.

Finally I got that down and could do it

Next I wanted to get this European method down it sounded so good because I
would never have to let go of a needle, enabling me to knit faster. I played
around with it, and today the light bulb finally went off and I had one of
those ahah moments. The main thing I needed to remember was that I should
never let go of the left hand needle and working yarn in my hand until the
end of the row. so I just finished a row using this method and wow, yes, I
did it without dropping stitches.

I think the reason I have not been dropping stitches is because I am
thinking about every step in the process and going very slow. . If I am in
the middle of the steps and something looks wrong, I take my right needle
out and start again. better to redo one stitch then have a mistake.

I know my speed will come once I do not have to think about each step. Soon
my hands will just do their thing, as they do with crocheting and knitting
on a loom.

I hope this helps some one. I've been waiting and waiting for the tape, but
now I don't think I will need it.

Bring on the purl stitch Annette!

The more I learn, the more I want to learn!

Cathy
