[Nfb-krafters-korner] raised line kits

An empty ball point pen works quite well to draw with. I had one of those in
college. We took a piece of board, put a piece of window screen on it and
put duct tape on the top edge and corners. It worked just fine. Like you
said, the only thing is, you have to remember that you are drawing
backwards.

There is a device called a black board and Ann Cunningham of Colorado sells
them. Ann was at convention and held a class so someone could look up her
information on the NFB website or in the agenda.
You can also use a clip board with a piece of window screen attached to it.
To draw, you need to use a tracing wheel (yes, the sewing kind) and you
place the piece of typing paper over the screen board and draw your shape
etc. You have to turn the paper over to feel the raised lines. So remember
if you are writing words, you have to trace them backwards.

I had gotten one of these Raised Line drrawing boards from someone here on
the list that was making them. I don't know if she is still on the list or
not at this time.
I really liked it and had gotten 2 of them at the time.
It was a board type thing that you clipped a piece of paper to. It had a
rubbery surface and you could draw on it with a pen on to the paper. I had
used printer paper and even construction paper, but not thicker then that.
As you draw or trace it would make an in dent in the paper opposite of the
drawing area.
Now the purpose I was using it for at the time was I would draw something or
my older granddaughter would trace something from the coloring book and I
could turn it over and tactilly feel the raised lines and color it in with
my Grand Daughters. Or they could color my drawings that I did for them.
I was told that with printer paper pictures or printed things could be
traced for a blind person to feel tactilly. I was told detail was as much
as you put into it.
I was advised at the time that these drawing boards were available and at
the time I had searched around I think Maxiaid had it, but it was a bit
expensive [like over $40 plus shipping] and I think I paid under $25 with
the shipping for the person selling them here.
The girls and I had some fun time and I will need to pull it out once again
for them and Grandma to play with.

Hi Becky,
Ann Cunningham here. I teach art at the Colorado Center for the Blind
and have developed the Sensational BlackBoard as a raised line drawing
tool. You use it with a regular ballpoint pen and copy paper. You can see a
video about how it works at _http://www.SensationalBooks.com_
(http://www.sensationalbooks.com/)
I would be happy to talk to you about how we use it as a means of
getting reference materials tactually accessible quickly by tracing the
images.

Someone on this list was making and selling raised line drawing kits. I
have a lovely lady who wants hard copy drawing of animals so she can make
her art pieces. I thought the raised line drawing kits would be perfect
for
her, if I am understanding what they are, that is, shy smile.
So please get in touch with me and explain your kits, price, with contact
information to:
_b.butterfly at comcast.net_ (mailto:b.butterfly at comcast.net)
And we can talk, and see if this is what she needs.
Becky and his royal fluffiness, sniff, Jake
