When I was a kid at residential school for the blind and we had the
opportunity to do basket weaving with reed, we did soak it in water a few
minutes before using it. If we had to stop before finishing we would also
turn the basket upside down and soak it as well. This gave you flexibility
to shape your basket as well as flexibility to finish off the ends. I hope
this helps, but you might want to contact the company where you bought the
kit.

Annette

Annette,
I am not certain, but it is a dry reed or grass, sorry.

Terry K,

What is the material you are working with for the basket?

Joyce or Everyone,

Has anyone worked with basket weaving that might be able to answer a
question for me. I am trying to learn this craft and have purchased a kit,
with instructions. The instructions are clear but they tell me be careful in
working with the material not to break the pieces or I will have to reattach
if broken. My question is: Is it better to soak the material in water before
weaving to make it easier to weave. The kit instruction does not mention
that but it seems better if I did soak it to make it easier to work with.
Does anyone know and can make any suggestions. Thanks.
