I know about knitted mitered squared, but I believe that you can also crochet them.
A mitered square is worked from one corner to the other. It ends up looking like 2 triangles placed together so that their longest sides are touching.
You will find a line that runs diagonally from one corner to the one diagonally from it.
There are a number of ways to make a mitered square. One way is as follows:
If you want to make a 6 inch square and your gauge is 5 stitches per inch, you would cast on 61 stitches. 30 of these stitches will make up one edge and 30 stitches will make up one of the adjacent edges. 1 stitch will be the corner between the 2 adjacent edges. As you work the rows, you decrease on either side of the center stitch. You will continue decreasing until 3 stitches remain. The ends of your rows are making up the other 2 edges of the square. Making a mitered square is one of those situations where you have to trust your pattern and you will be rewarded at the end.
HTH,
Annette
