You wined using the outside strand. That is how I do it. I put the ball
of yarn in a paper basket and wined my yarn. I think they are having a
sale on winders I just got an email today. Let me check.aperpaperbasket

hi Becky and all,

I always, absolutely always, roll my yarn into a ball before starting a
project. I have had enough nightmare experiences in yarn snarls to
convince me that winding first is a must. I would like to get a yarn winder one of
these days, maybe when I get my needles. hmm, good idea Cathy. anyhow, I
usually must take my yarn from the outside of the skein. I have heard that
if you find the outside strand of yarn, and you poke your fingers into the
opposite side from the working yarn, you will find the inner strand of yarn.
occasionally I am lucky enough to find that little devil, but not very
often.

question for those who have a yarn winder, can you roll from the outside
of the skein with the winder, or must you find the strand in the center of
the skein?
also, since I have just now decided to get a winder, what brand is a good
 choice?
thanks,

Cathy
