Maria,

Yes, this is the kind of loom you want. It is best to begin with a round
knifty knitter (KK loom) however. So be sure that you check the description.
The long looms are ok, but not as easy to use, at least in my opinion.
Besides that, you can make more things on a round loom than on a long loom.
that is, unless you buy a loom clip. But we'd better not go there for
simplicity's sake. Also, you will want to find out how many pegs the loom
has, or whether it is a set. A 24-peg loom can make small items such as
mittens and scarves and baby hats. A 31-peg loom can make a child's hat. The
36 peg loom makes an adult hat while the 41-peg loom can make something as
large as a man's hat or a shawl. The 48-peg loom can make the same as a
41-peg loom but the pegs are a bit closer together, so you can use either
5-ply or 6-ply on this loom. This one is my favorite of all the looms.
While you are shopping, you might want to look for some 6-ply yarn as well.
We have found that the lion brand wool-ease thick and quick is a great
choice because it is somewhat stretchy and so is easy to use on the loom and
also because it is a perfect thickness for the KK looms.
Oops, almost forgot to say, you want to be certain your loom comes with a
loom tool.

Then you will be ready for class!
Cathy
