What about one that's knitted and one that's crocheted?  Hey, don't look at 
me either to sew it together.  I'll knit squares, though.

I like the idea of afghan squares as well. The only drawback about that is
that some of us only know how to crochet and some only know how to knit.
We'd have to choose one or the other.
Then we could have a beginners class on the chosen square type.
We'd have to choose a color scheme and type of yarn so that the blanket
would look nice.
The more participants we had willing to volunteer, the less squares we'd
each have to make.

One more thing, the most difficult job would be sewing the squares together.
<groan> don't look at me for that job!
