David, there are end caps, you can get from Primitive Organics, that can be glued to the ends of the cord and then add a closure.
There are different kinds of end caps on the market, so be careful of which kind you get, but if you ordered your kumihimo loom from primitive organics, they also have the needed end caps and closures.
I have ordered some but have not had a chance to try it.
Also note there are different size end caps for different size cords.
