Terry,
I use the thick ones too. I think they're about 4-5 mm or so. My
stitches also buckle in the middle but I don't think it detracts from
the look of the scrunchy. ALl the scrunchies they sell in the store
also scrunches up in the middle, hence the name? And I don't think the
elastic will show through unless you use a really thin yarn and the
stitches are really big.
