Cindy;
I was just going to ask if you get your crafted item back. Thanks for answering that question and many more.
Also thanks to the others who answered my question.
I have some scarves and hat and scarve sets, if they are still around, that I might enter, next year. If I do say so myself, being a beginner at crocheting, looking at these 2 scarves, you would never know it. I am proud of them!

Terry P.

I enter items all the time in the County Fair. Over the past several years, clients that I work with have entered items too. This year I entered toffee, caramels, dehydrated apples, dehydrated bananas, dehydrated citrus peel (oranges), dehydrated mangos, dehydrated snack mix with a mixture of the dehydrated fruits that I made and nuts, crochet Christmas Tree ornament, and a crochet scarf. I won a first place ribbon on all of my food entries and nothing on the crochet items. I guess I cook better than I crochet. LOL

It is fun to enter Terry P. It is a feeling of accomplishment and winning is a nice bonus. One thing you have to watch out for is the rules. My client entered a cake and it said it had to be frosted! He won a first place ribbon!!!! So excited for him. Sometimes the rules will tell you how many to include such as 6 chocolate chip cookies on a white plate. Read the rules!!

Sometimes it is difficult to figure out what category to enter your item in. My other client this year entered a felted dog that she made. Felting was not a category so she had to enter it in the hand stitched item category.

Also remember to check the deadlines. At our fair, you have to submit what you will be entering by one date, turn the item in on another date at a specific time, and the following day they judge the items. You also have to pick up your items on a specific time, or you might forfeit it to the fair.

READ THE RULES!

Cindy Z.

I would advise definitely finding out all you can before hand. When I was younger, I entered a bench in the fair, and didn't really have to do much. I just had to make sure it was in the right place at the right time for the judging. It should be fairly easy for you to enter whatever you need to.
Hope this helps,
Aleeha

The main thing you need to find out is the catagory specifications that are being judged. For instance, if you want to enter a baby blanket you may have to choose from groupings like knitted baby blanket, crochetted, using hand spun wool or even natural fibers. I had a baby blanket and a recliner afgan that I entered in two different classes and received a second place for each. I have entered two of my paper baskets, one out of news papers and the other from card stock paper. The card stock basket went into paper art and the news paper basket went into recycled materials. I received a 3rd place for that basket.

>>
>> The catalog is MANY pages long. Scroll down the table of contents to "Home Arts Dept. 41-60" and click on that line. Here you will find directions on when and how to enter, and if you look for "crochet" or "knit" you will find all the different categories that your project might fit into.
>>
>> Basically, you enter by taking your item to the Home Arts building on Thursday, Aug. 7 (from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. if you are a senior, or 4:00 to 8:00 pm if you are younger) or on Friday August 8 (from 2:00 to 8:00 pm).
