Hi Michelle,

Here are some craft ideas for building fine motor and tactile discrimination
skills.

Use pasta as beads and string it on string or yarn to make a necklace or
bracelet. Use a variety of different shaped pasta and make a repeating
pattern as you string the pieces of pasta.

Make a collage by gluing items on a piece of paper, poster board or
cardboard. The items can be things you gather on an outing to the park or
playground, pasta uncooked beans, , buttons, torn pieces of paper, or
anything else you can come up with.

Shaving cream or pudding finger painting.

Decorate jars by covering them with glue and then rolling them in glitter.
Small baby food jars work well for candle holders, larger ones make nice
organizers for pens and pencils. You can also use the finished jar or
bottle for a vase for live or artificial flowers. These all make great
gifts for the holidays.

Make a paper mache piñata. There are many resources on the web for ideas on
how to do this. Hang your piñata, get a broom handle or bat and have at
it.

Buy or make a tactile Tic-Tac-Toe board and have a tournament.

Make butter by shaking up heavy cream in a container. There are many
recipes on the web. Talk about the characteristics of the ingredients when
you put them in the container. Talk about how the sound and feel are
changing as you shake it. make predictions about what it will be like when
you open the container. Enjoy your homemade butter on toast, crackers,
muffins, rolls, etc.

HTH, Annette

Hello

I'm working with a little girl who is blind and we're doing some pre-Braille
stuff. Any ideas on fun crafts that are easy but involve some dexterity?
