This is another project I used to make when I was a kid, with my mother.

Do your children give gifts to grandparents or aunts and uncles? These are
great as gifts!

Ice Candles (also called Lace Candles)

What you will need:

Clean and Empty paper milk carton

Wick

candle wax, cut up into small pieces

Crayons for color if desired(a great way to use up some of those broken
crayon pieces!)

Oven mitt or hot pad

Dish towel

Wooden spoon

Large Pyrex measuring cup

Pot large enough to hold measuring cup

Pencil which is longer than the span of the opening of the milk carton

What you will do.

1. Cut a piece of wick 2 or 3 inches longer than the milk carton is
high.

2. Tie a knot in the end of the wick. Then tie the other end of the
length of wick onto the pencil, long enough to reach from the top of the
milk carton to the bottom of the milk carton. Lie the pencil across the top
edge of the milk carton with the wick hanging down in the center of the
carton. (Note: The knot should be hanging down and centered in the bottom
of the milk carton.)

3. Fill the milk carton with ice cubes. You want them to be in
loosely with space between them as well as not crowding around the wick.
Put this in the freezer to keep cold.

4. If using crayons for adding color to your wax, peel the paper off
the crayons and cut the crayons up into little pieces.

5. Put 2 inches of water in the pot.

6. Put wax into Pyrex pitcher.

7. Place the pitcher into the water and bring the water to a low
boil. Stirring the wax with a wooden spoon until almost melted.

8. Add the crayon chips and continue stirring until all is completely
melted.

9. Take the carton out of the freezer.

10. Using a hot pad, or oven mitt, lift the pitcher out of the water and
set on the towel. Dry the outside of the pitcher.

11. Carefully pour the wax into the carton over the ice, being sure to
pour particularly along the wick area. (The candle will burn better if the
wick is coated in the wax).

12. Let the wax cool and the ice meld.

13. When the wax has completely cooled and hardened, pour off the water,
and peel away the milk carton.

14. When burning this candle place it on a dish to keep the wax from
melting onto your furniture.
