[Nfb-krafters-korner] Crochet and kniting items seen while away on a r...

Hi Joyce,

I don't mind the thick and quick or the chunky yarns worked with the larger
needles. I only use those yarns single stranded. I have used multiple
strands like 2 to 7 strands of worsted or sport weight. The main thing to
keep in mind is not to let the strands work into your stitches twisted
together. This will make the flow of yarn turn from smooth and soft to
stiff and more textured. I knit continintal so I feed the yarn through my
left-hand which helps me keep the yarn smooth.

A cousin gave me a huge zippered blanket storage bag that held at least 4
folded blankets and it was filled with different sized balls of yarn in more
colors than I could think of. So I randumly picked out 7 balls to start
with and decided to knit a rug for my bedside. I took each ball and tied to
the yarn end a large stitch marker and then rewound the ball with the marker
now on the inside of the ball. Since these balls were not the same size, as
I knitted, and a ball ran out, the stitch holder would eventually make it to
my left hand and I could tell when that ball was done. Then I took another
ball, attached that stitch marker to the end, rewound it and then added it
to the tail end of the finished ball and kept on knitting. Of course, the
rug has now turned into the dog rug, but she still enjoys it and I can throw
it in the washer and drier when necessary.

It took me a while to get use to the size N hook especially with the home
spun because the suggested size hook was a K. I just have to go a little
sloer and I don't know if I'd go more than 3 strands of yarn with an N hook.
Same thing for the larger needles, I don't like using more than 4 strands.
Seven strands was a chalenge that I gave myself and now that I have, I think
I'll stick to 4 or less strands.
