Hi all,

I am happy to share the good news that I did win some ribbons today at the
show. but before I tell you about them I wanted to let you know that the
show overall is a great success. I was there when it open and stayed for 2
hours and during that brief time we had over 100 visitors come through. The
show was open for 2 more hours today and for 4 hours tomorrow, so our
visitor total should be good. I heard lots of wonderful comments from people
after seeing the show.
Now for my ribbons:
The hobby exhibit I described to you was not judged and I didn't hang around
the craft table, so don't know what anyone thought of it.
For the flower design I described to you with the dried lotus pods, yarrow,
and other things, I received a white ribbon, (an honorable mention meaning
that I received at least 75 points out of 100 for it). I am somewhat
disappointed, but oh well.
My blue aster received a blue ribbon (meaning that I scored more than 90
points.) I am very pleased because these daisy-like asters grow in bunches
and are so pretty.
Next my yellow daisy mum receive a blue ribbon along with an award of merit.
(the award of merit indicated that I had the best mum out of all the mum
varieties. shown)
I purchased that particular plant last year and the very night I planted it,
the deer ate every blossom. This year I beat the deer to the flowers.
Next, My collection of three mints, peppermint, spearmint, and catmint
received a yellow ribbon, (meaning I scored at least 80 points. My mints are
common and there were mints shown like pineapple mint, chocolate mint and
orange mint which are more unusual, so those scored higher.
Lastly, I had a grouping of five herbs and I received a white ribbon for
that. I really had hoped for a red or yellow ribbon at least because my
herbs are my pride and joy, but for whatever reason I did not get enough
points.

So that is the story on the flower show. other than to say that I spent four
hours last night checking in every one's entries into my computer. So a long
night. But I have all the info needed to write a nice article for our garden
club newsletter and to submit data for our club to compete for best garden
club of the state or even the nation.
