Report in from Maryland. I am not a happy person. Cindy Z. and I
went to
Baltimore to the NFB for a "Leaders and Ledger seminar. I feel we
did
learn some things and had the opportunity to meet Presidents and
treasurers of
affiliates and divisions. Next week they will be having the other
half of
these folks come in for the same thing.
They even wanted us to be filmed in an advertisement for the Green
collection that NFB has joined in to make some fund raising money.
This is the bad part... While walking out to the area that they
planned
on filming us, stepping off the curb on Wells Street I managed to fall
down
in the street. I scraped my arm and got all worked up that I hurt my
ankle
that I had broken. They went into the NFB and came out with a
wheel
chair and put me in it. I went back to the meeting and sat there
with a bag
of ice on my annkle I had broken and finally got out of that stupid
boot.
When we had a break toward the latter part of the afternoon, I got up
out of
the wheelchair to walk to the bathroom. Well my foot on the right
side
really hurt.[not the left side that was broken before] We went to
eat supper
and then back to the room. We had another meeting to go to in the
evening, but after getting out of the shoe, Cindy told me my foot was
black and
blue and swollen on the right side. I decided to stay off my feet
and
basically went to bed. Saturday it still hurt, but I went to all the
meetings
and stayed in the wheel chair Sunday it still was hurting, my blood
sugars
sky rocketed so I called my son before I left for the airport to tell
him I
wanted him to take me to the hospital or at least for an x-ray. We
drove
to Stratford and went straight to the Med Now [walk in center]. It
was
empty at 4 PM. I asked them if they take my insurance as there was a
sign that
they don't wait for medicare payments. Well they told me I needed to
pay
the $50 co pay and bill the rest to my insurance. My son hinted that
would
be the best spent $50 due to not having to wait hours in the
emergency
room.
The bad news is, I broke my 5th metatarsal bone. The good news is I
can
wear this wooden shoe and walk on it.
Yep, it hurts, but I can live with it and some Advil. Just need to
stay
on top of the blood sugars[broken bones spike blood sugars]
The only problem I seem to be facing is since May I have been telling
myself good foot up the stairs, bad foot down the stairs. I did have
that down
well, but now feet switch leaves me standing and not knowing what foot
to
lead with...
My sons think I shouldn't leave the house any more. I tend to agree
with
them right now. If I didn't have bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck
at all.
Joyce
