Hi Barb,

I feel the peg with my fingers after making a stitch to be certain I have
all of the yarn, this is particularly important when knitting double
stranded, which is when I tend to get into difficulty. 

Of course other ideas are not to use yarns that tend to split or to use a
hook that is not so pointed on the end.
