[Nfb-krafters-korner] Fund Raising at Convention

Accordian folders might be a good idea for craft show type selling. We
could attach sample cards to the big flap and protect all the rest. They
might even be a good way to store the cards if we make them ahead.

How about accordinn folders for storing cards and envelopes while selling.
No unzipping or possibility of dropping. The folders could be in some
order, with braille labels, in a box.

Hi,
I have a few suggestions of my own. I know things can get hectic when
there's a crowd and also passing the work from one to another can be
confusing.

Here are some suggestions from the public who visited us and some bought
cards:
Have cards about:
Happy birthday
Thinking of you
Thank you

Maybe instead of bags the cards could be in trays of some kind. They could
be brought to the table and put away in bags, but not while being sold.
That we would make more if we sold a variety of items (I'm not sure if that
is true or not) with more than one person at the table during selling time.

I'm not sure that standing up cards would be very workable. They'd probably
get knocked down occasionally.
Have braille alphabet cards available to give out with the cards, or just
give Them out.
That we sell small items such as Terry's cross key, Cindy's crocheted rose,
etc, so people can get them home with less likely Thanks Lauren Blessings in
Jesus' name Philippians 4:6-7 "Do not be anxious about anything, but in
every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your
requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding,
will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

A few suggestions I would make are the following.

Train the volunteers before convention so that they know what is there, what
is available to sell and they can make lists of prices in a way that makes
sense to them.

Set up the table so that it is pleasing to the eye and to people who look at
items. I'd rather see fewer items on the table itself with volunteers having
access to items people may ask for after seeing the samples on the table. We
did have somewhat of a setup like this at convention but a nice presentation
goes a long way. Standing the cards on something that people can still touch
without it falling over would be great. It would attract people visually
too. Perhaps making the cards in such a way that there are a variety of
colours on them would be pleasing to some who see them as well. This way,
they'd have the tactile and the visual and attract more buyers.

If you have cards of different sizes, have them in separate bags. It was
very good to have the Braille labels on the bags of cards because I was
unable to identify the pictures on the cards.

Proof the cards before putting them out there. I found a couple with
mistakes in them.

Have a call before convention for anyone who is volunteering at the table
and explain to them exactly what is expected. Tell them as much as is
possible about what to expect.

Mark the various sections where bills are held for those of us who are not
familiar with US currency. It should be very clear which denominations go
where without having to remember that the fives go in the envelope and the
ones go in the leather case with the zipper. Have a bill reader for
volunteers to use for those who don't have such a device. Make sure there is
something with a lid for the coins. Having a sectioned off container in
which to put the envelopes with the bills would be a great idea rather than
having smaller envelopes and so on lying around with money.

Have volunteers come in 15 minutes before their shift starts so that they
can be properly orientated to the table and the setup. It may be better to
have two people there during busy times.

Perhaps having a fun thing for people to buy would raise more money. Maybe
even having a little craft kit would be nice. I was much more drawn to those
divisions who sold useful things or things that I could do.

Sorry I could not make chat on Monday night. I would like to post this
question to those out there who can give me their opion and help with our
fund raising effort at convention. I know you can not comment on how much we
made but I would like to hear from those who can give me their opinions on
the sale. Like were there enough items to sell, were they a good price,
could we have done anything differently. Was it a good thing or should we
not do it again. I know everyone has different opinions and I am asking for
just your personal ideas on these items that were made for sale. After
working to have everyone get their items to convention, I would like to know
how it went over, there is no right or wrong suggestion but I would like to
put everything together to make suggestions for next year. If you have an
opinion please post it to me or the list. I thank you for your time.
