Thanks Lindy, I'll save this to be ready when needed. I only know how to
have nvda pronounce digits as digits and not as words and there ends my
knowledge.

Here they are, Cindy and for anyone else using N V D A.
I've done it in detail for anyone who might be new.

1 Press insert N to bring up the NVDA main menu.
2 Down arrow to Preference Menu.
3 Right arrow to open this menu.
4 Down arrow to "Speech Dictionaries".
5 Right arrow to open this menu.
5 Down arrow to "voice dictionary" and press enter.
6 Ignore all the info spoken and tab once to the "add" button and press
enter.
7 Copy the exact phrase in the line below into the edit box.
[Nfb-krafters-korner]
8 Tab to the replacement edit box and type KK or what you'd like NVDA to
say.
9 Tab to the radio button and check "anywhere" and then to ok. Press enter.

You can now add other words by going through the same process. To see a list
of all the words in your dictionary, instead of going to the "add" button,
once you open the voice dictionary, just move up and down with your arrow
keys and there will be all your words with their replacements.
You can then either add, edit or remove any of these words.

Please post those directions. I am becoming more fluent with NVDA but
haven't had a chance to go back to digging around the manual.
