Debbie,

I would recommend pony beads since you would like letters or numbers. The
pony beads come in a wide variety of colors, a few different shapes in
addition and are opaque meaning solid colors, colors that are transparent
meaning you can see light through the bead, glow in the dark, metallic,
pearlized, and maybe some options I've missed. The numbers and letters are
sort of cube shaped. Both types of beads are similar in size so work well
together. For stringing them, it depends on your intended use. Satin rattail
is an elegant material and I can even get necklaces in this with a lobster
clasp. You can also use stretch cord or even just elastic. You can even use
crochet yarn if for kids to play with. You can use wire and make a very cute
bracelet that will fit any wrist because it is adjustable. Monofilament
similar to fishing line is possible and plastic lacing also is good. Good
old jute cord even works. If you'd like to write me offlist at
ncbootman at gmail.com and we can discuss more what you want and the specifics
of a design. I'll be glad to help you with this project if you like. We can
even talk by phone if you want.

Greg
