Hey about 2 years after I went blind I hired this fellow to come out to my
house and teach me how to make these balloon animals. I tracked him down as
he was teaching a course in a College close to me. I did ask him if he
could do it with his eyes closed and when he said probably, I mentioned I
had a little trouble seeing.

Well when he came to my house he learned I couldn't see anything, but he
taught me how to do a lot of the balloon things. I was doing craft shows at
the time with my friend. It was with granulated wax and kids made sand art
candles. I had all kinds of jars and went to the restaurant supply place
and bought really cheap [as they were sample wine classes, beer mugs and
that kind stuff. When the kids got done making their sand art candle they
would bring it over to me, I put a wick in it and some cellophane, if I had
a lid I would tape that on it, add a small bow on the top and a label on the
bottom that said, Made bby Me!

Kids and adults loved watching, making and I was happy taking the money
home. My girl friend collected the money while I wrapped it up.

I still have lots of granulated wax. It came in colors and they had scented
wax, too.

Hi Carrol,

Lion Brand has a series of patterns that are modeled off of Balloon animals.
Do you remember the long skinny balloons that clowns make animals and other
figures out of? In these patterns you make a long tube that is constructed
so that when it is finished it looks like a series of different lengths of
linked sausages. The pattern tells you how long to make each segment, and
then how to fold and secure the segments to make the various animals. I
found that I needed sighted help to understand the assembly instructions.

Let us know what you think of these patterns.

Annette

Hello All, I am looking for a loom knit pattern for something like a teddy
bear or doll that can be donated to places like The Red Cross or hospitals
that provide services to small children going through a crisis. I know some
of these agencies give children a homemade stuffed animal to give them
comfort and I would like to find a suitable pattern for this type of
charity.

I thank you in advance for your help.

Carol O
