Lauron, buy a curling brush at the store first, they are pretty cheap. There
are different sizes depending on what you want. If you want waves or a curl
under get the large curling brush. Try it unplugged first. Take the small
section pull it out from your head. Then use the brush to brush under the
hair slowly until you can just feel your hair about to slip away in the
brush and curl under. Hold thirty seconds, I think my directions say, and
slowly unwind in the same direction you went up the hair. If you get it
straight it will unwind easily. But do not panic if you tangle. This is
precisely why you are using it cold. It will take a bit of time with
practice before you can learn to use the curling brush. When I used to curl
my hair under, I use my ear as a landmark. I pinned up everything above the
equator. Remember pull the lower hair out, then curl. Four sections across
the bottom and five sections above the ear. Then let the hair cool. Use a
round brush and gently shape the curls . Most have to touch up here or
there. My trouble spots were right in the front. I always had to re curl the
front.

Hi,

I am asking on this list as one who would consider hair styling as a craft.
I am wondering if there are any totally blind people on our list who use
curling irons or hair straighteners? I am asking because QVC's Today's
Special Value is a Calista Ultra hair styler. But it heats up to 380-420F.
Yikes! I called them and they did inform me that it has a guard. But I am
wondering, can blind people use something that gets that hot as safely as a
sighted person? I am also wondering how one would learn how to use it,
because their videos just play music as they demonstrate without words.

My hair is at a weird stage. It has been permed with a wave but some of the
wave is straight and some is slightly curly. I don't really want to use
bobby pins, rollers, etc. to curl it. I wore very short hair for years and
years so learning how to style longer hair is totally new for me. Up until
now, I've just been pushing it back with a headband and letting it do its
thing. But it is weirding out a lot now.

I hope there is someone on the list who has the craft of hairstyling who can
advise me. I don't know whether to get one of these stylers or not.

Thanks,

Lauren
