Is it on a roll like masking tape or duck tape, or in a roll like label tape
and has a backing that you need to remove when you are ready to apply it?

Washi tape is definitely tape and not ribbon. It is adhesive-backed and will
adhere to just about anything, glass, wood, plastic, paper. It can be used
to decorate stationery, packages, glass jars, frames, etc. etc. Some of the
patterns you must be careful about placing upside down or backwards. You
